Fuel handling

A robust fuel handling system is critical for successful woodchip system. Fuel blockages are usually the most common cause of breakdown. Since woodchip is quite variable, there is considerable potential for jamming of feed systems and 'bridging' (chip locks together and will not flow into the feed system) in fuel stores.

Typical measures include:

walking floor system
'Walking floors' - reciprocating scraper system that gradually moves fuel towards the feed screw.

outfeeder system
Outfeeders for fuel stores - spring-loaded arms that rotate slowly in the fuel store to keep chip flowing.

auger system
Auger screws - transfer fuel from store to boiler.
