Fuel storage

Storage facilities for woodchip depend on the scale of the system and the availability of fuel. Very small boilers may be supplied with a built in hopper for manual loading every few days. Larger systems use silos, bins or bunkers to provide storage for much larger volumes.

Bins and silos are typically filled using a front loader.

Bunkers may be built with lifting or sliding roofs to allow fuel delivery by tipping trailer or truck.

Large installations may use a drive-in bunker with a walking floor or overhead grab.

A novel solution that removes the need for on-site handling is to use 35m3 hook bins with integral floor scrapers that are delivered to site every few days.
