The woodlands we enjoy today are the result of hundreds of years of management by man.

Many of the smaller woodlands have been neglected in recent years because the timber has little or no value.

The result is that the biodiversity created by management - woodland glades where flowers, butterflies and wildlife can thrive - has suffered.

Wood fuel provides an opportunity for woodland owners to gain extra value for their timber by supplying local markets with firewood - and means that many more woods will be properly managed again.

And that means not only will the fragile eco-systems that exist today will be protected and increased, but the woods will look more attractive and offer new opportunities for people to enjoy them.
