LLanwddyn Launch

Wales's first biomass district heating scheme will be launched on 30th June 2006 by Edwina Hart AM, MBE. The Llanwddyn Community Heating Scheme is part of the pioneering wood-energy industry in Wales and the UK and is the first community-based biomass heating scheme in Wales. A 500kW Compte wood chip boiler, installed by Dulas Wood Energy, provides heat to Ysgol Vyrnwy School, Community Centre and 30 houses.
Llanwddyn

Wood chip is sourced from within a 20 mile radius of the school and the scheme is operated through a partnership between Powys County Council, Dulas Wood Energy, Severn Trent Water and the residents. It was developed by Mid Wales Energy Agency with these organisations and others such as Llanwddyn Community Council.

The scheme is an excellent, working example for others to learn and build from, and has already attracted interest from official bodies and other communities in the UK.

If you would like to attend the launch please contact Jenny Lampard at Mid Wales Energy Agency by 28th June 2006 on 01654 703064 or email info@mwea.org.uk.
