Wood is a clean fuel, it's nice to handle - and it's good for the environment too.
It's '
solid solar energy' - and providing the wood comes from a
properly managed woodland it is just about carbon neutral. Wood for heating reduces carbon emissions by 95 per cent compared to fossil fuelled heating.
That means the carbon dioxide it releases when burned will be taken up by a new tree planted in the place of the one that is on your fire.
Wood fuel is
good for the landscape too,
sustainably managed woodlands have a greater bio-diversity, providing habitats for more plants and animals.
And the industry provides
local jobs for local peopletoo.
